アルコール燃料とINDYCAR 2012　[モータースポーツ] [編集]

この記事は、休止前に準備していたものです。エンジンシリーズが途中ですが、このネタも古くなりそうなのでここで紹介したいと思います。

INDYCARシリーズは全15戦中、第10戦まで終了してしまいました。
本シーズンでは、以前このブログで紹介したエアロパーツをそのまま装着した車体を使用しています。

車体供給メーカーは今年ダラーラ( Dallara )だけと思ってよく、このメーカーの提供価格は裸で$349,000でコンプリートカーが$386,000です。Aero kitにかけてよい費用が$70,000と言うことなので、ダラーラの車体とエアロキットを同時に付けてたら、$1,000お安くなるということですね。
今年のダラーラの車体価格は、昨年と比べて45%の価格ダウンされているそうです。
７９円換算で、3０百万強です。一台何億円するか分からないF1と比べるととても安いですね。(絶対額は高いですが)ただしこれにはエンジンの価格は入っていません。
2013年まではこのエアロパーツは全チーム統一でダラーラ製のみ使用可だそうです。これも各チームの出費を抑える手段とか。F1と違いますね。
よって今年のINDYCARの各レースカーは形全く同じに見えます。エンジンがホンダ、シボレー、ロータスの3社提供になったので、見る人が見れば違っているのでしょうが、私の目には同じに見えます。
2014年からはチーム毎に姿が違ったレースカーが見られるかも。

INDYCARのおもしろいところは、F1と違って同じチームでもスポンサーが違うことで、マシンの塗装が全く違います。
その結果、形は同じでも、派手な物からおとなしい物まで多種多様の色とデザインに仕立てられています。

以前アルコールで車は走るのかというご質問がありました。その証として少し書こうと思います。
アルコール燃料については別途特集を組むべく準備しておりますので、疑問がありましたらコメント欄に書いておいていただければ、分かる範囲、興味の向くままネタにさせてもらおうと思います。

INDYCARレースでは、2012年からE85と呼ばれるエタノール85%、ガソリン15%の燃料を使用しています。
簡単に歴史をたどると、
1910年代にはエタノールが安全性の高さから主流となり、1950年代にはパワーのあるガソリンが主となっているようです。
1964年にEddie Sachs,Dave MacDonaldの2名のドライバーが大炎上を起こし命を落としました。これをきっかけに、1968年からメタノールを燃料として使うようになっています。1910年代の考え方に立ち返ったと言うことですかね。
2005年には環境のことを考えてと思いますが、エタノールにバトンタッチしています。
そして、今年、2012年からは、給油中に発生しやすい漏れた燃料のエンジン熱による発火時に炎が見えやすい事と、これは私の勝手な想像ですが、アメリカ政府のE85普及のためE85に切り替えられています。

エタノールは、ガソリンと比べるとパワーが63%程度ということで、ガソリンエンジンより使用する燃料を増やすことでパワーを稼いでいるようです。
ちなみに今年は、2.2L Turbo V6で550-700HP/12,000rpmとなっています。

エタノールは火がついても目に見えないのが、唯一怖いところですね。
なので、給油後に燃料口に水をかけているのをよく見ます。
