今回は水平対向エンジンの一つとも位置づけられている180°V型エンジンの構造をより詳しく説明するため、V型エンジンとは何かについて紹介したいと思います。

180°V型エンジンの動きで以前注目してもらったのは、対応するピストンが嫌々をするように一緒に左右に動くことでした。
このようにピストンが動くと言うことは、 対応するピストンのクランクシャフトへの取り付け位置(正確にはクランクシャフトピン位置)が同じ ということです。
クランクピン位置は下の図に示すクランクシャフトの紫色部分のことを言います。

このことを頭に置きながら下の図を見て下さい。

V型エンジンは、対応するピストンがクランクシャフトの回転中心軸を頂点に、ある角度を持って位置するエンジンで、しかも ク ランクピン位置 が同位相で回ることがポイントであったのです。
V型エンジンの動きの動画を下に用意しました。
私にとって、V型エンジンといえば、フォード・コスワース・DFVエンジン(Ford cosworth DFV engine)です。

実は、現在のV型エンジンには同位相でないものも存在しているのですが、起源が同位相と言うことから、水平対向エンジンの内、対応するピストンがクランクシャフトピンに同位相で取り付けられているものを180°V型エンジンというのです。
